What is thin slate? / How are thin stone veneers possible?

A process has been developed in which many wafer-thin layers of stone can be extracted from massive blocks of stone.The stone layers are not split off as with conventional stone slabs, but rather peeled off using a resin.Each of these slabs is unique and is handcrafted in over 12 processing steps .The look and feel of the solid stone slab are preserved.

Our Slate-Lite product line is suitable for almost any application.Slate-Lite stone veneers can be used indoors as wall cladding or a feature wall, but also outdoors and even as facade cladding.Slate-Lite can also be used in bathrooms, showers and saunas without any issues and, if required, can even be installed directly over old tiles.Our stone veneers can also be used around fireplaces or as a kitchen splashback.Thanks to their minimal overall thickness, Slate-Lite stone veneers are also ideal for furniture design and can be laminated with other materials.

A special visual highlight is the subtle shimmer of the material, created by the natural quartzite content in the stone.The marble decors from Slate-Lite are distinguished by their naturally split, textured surface with varied and continuously changing patterns and structures. Strong veining and raised areas in the surface are typical characteristics of split-face marble.Note: Marble decors may occasionally be a few millimetres thicker than other decors.The sandstone decors from Slate-Lite are characterised by a slightly rough, somewhat grainy surface with subtle variations in height.Artdecors Lite brings together distinctive design surfaces for creative interior wall design and custom feature walls.The collection combines the typical advantages of Slate-Lite—extremely low material thickness, low weight, easy processing, and flexibility—with selected decors such as refined stone veneers with a metal finish and mineral-based surfaces with a travertine-inspired appearance.

Slate-Lite 's headquarters and main warehouse are located in Rheinbach, Germany . The product was developed here, and all business operations take place here.Our thin stone veneers are produced in India.Naturally, we take great care to ensure good working conditions and compliance with safety regulations in our production facilities. The health of our employees is of particular importance to us.All employees in our factories must wear appropriate protective clothing – depending on the work process, this includes face masks, ear protection, safety glasses, gloves and safety shoes.The processing of natural stone usually results in high levels of fine dust pollution.However, thanks to Slate-Lite 's innovative manufacturing method, this can be drastically reduced: Since the massive slate blocks are not chiseled or split during the production of Slate-Lite, but peeled off layer by layer, no fine dust pollution is generated for our employees during this work step.The sawing and grinding of the slate blocks are carried out in our factories using water, thus binding any dust that is generated. The risk of silicosis, also known as stone dust lung, is therefore eliminated in the Slate-Lite production process !

Thanks to their lightness and thinness, our wafer-thin stone veneers are not only easy to work with and offer unique possibilities for indoor and outdoor use, but with Slate-Lite you are also choosing an environmentally friendly stone decoration !The emission rates on the transport routes are many times lower for Slate-Lite than for conventional stone slabs, resulting in a significantly more positive environmental impact.The majority of our goods are shipped to our central warehouse by sea. Slate-Lite is harmless to health!Slate-Lite meets the highest quality standards, including in terms of health.A prime example: Our recently conducted VOC emission test was passed with flying colors (result class A+) .High VOC levels are a health concern: unpleasant odors, irritations and symptoms in humans that cannot be directly attributed to a disease are possible consequences for personal health.As an example, we tested the multicolored slate decor "Falling Leaves" - due to the extremely low measured emissions, the testing institute was even able to prematurely terminate the test chamber test.

How do I care for and clean Slate-Lite?

Slate-Lite can be cleaned with all commercially available, non-corrosive household cleaners.In most cases, even plain water and a lint-free cloth or brush are sufficient.Outdoors, cleaning with a pressure washer is also possible; however, please observe the manufacturer's recommended distance when using the device.
